By Meena Kandel,Kawasoti, Jan. 19: A building has been constructed at Devchuli Municiplaity-10 of East Nawalparsi to establish a Magar Museum.
The museum constructed at Prithvi Nagar of Devchuli-10 will be used to preserve and promote art, artefacts, costumes and cultures of the Magar community as the Magar community is losing its cultural identity because of modernism.
Their original arts, culture, tradition and costumes are on the verge of extinction.
Bhuwan Singh Ale, the President of the Magar Museum, said, “The museum established in Devchuli- 10 will help future generations to feel proud of their cultural identity and connect with their roots”
The clothes, utensils, musical instruments and livelihood-related materials used by the Magar community will be displayed in the museum, said Ale.
The museum was constructed at the cost of Rs. 2.2 million. Devchuli Municipality has provided Rs. 1 million under the city-level ward promotion programme and Rs. 5, 00,000 was provided by ward no. 10, said Repti Kumar Gharti, ward chairperson of ward no.10.
Ale further stressed that the state should invest in the development and promotion of the Magar Museum as it would aid internal tourism.
Gayan Bahadur Rana, the Secretary of the Museum, said, “Art and artifacts depicting the Magar civilization were collected for the museum.”
Preparations are underway to inaugurate the museum on 27 February.
