Birgunj (Parsa), Jan 15: The Gopal Giri Memorial Journalism Award for this year has been presented to Brijlal Paswan, a journalist from Parsa.
Nepali Congress leader Ajaya Kumar Chaurasiya handed the award carrying Rs 50 thousand and Letter of Commendation to Paswan amidst a programme organised at Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Parsa.
On the occasion, FNJ secretary Dipendra Chauhan spoke about the contribution Gopal Giri had made to the development of journalism in Nepal.
Chief District Officer of Parsa, Dinesh Sagar Bhusal, FNJ Parsa former president Ashok Tiwari, journalist Girish Giri, the late Giri's son, Superintendent of Police Komal Bikram Shah, Armed Police Force Superintendent Kishan Karmacharya remembered the late Giri's role in the country's political field. FNJ Parsa president Anup Tiwari presided over the programme.
Gopal Giri, the then president of FNJ Parsa chapter, was assassinated by the then Maoist rebels on January 15, 2004.
