Awake all night to chase away elephants

Elephant wrecked havoc in Monday evening at Kachankawal Rural Municipality.

By Bishnu Prasad Pokharel, Damak, Jan 9: The locals of the Kachankawal Rural Municipality, Jhapa, are compelled to stay all night to chase the wild elephant away. 

According to Nabaraj Bhattarai, Vice-chairperson of the Kachankawal Rural Municipality, Jhapa, the elephant has been making the lives of the locals difficult for a month so the locals have been waking up all night to drive out the terror reining animal. 

Likewise, two elephants hunted down the house of Bishnu Gurung on Monday evening at Pathamari, Kachankawal Rural Municipality-3, Jhapa. Elephants ate the stored grains and food and sprinkled them all over the house. 

 “We have informed about the hardship that the locals have to face due to elephant to the provincial and federal government and even to the people’s representative of the district but to no avail. Facing the lack of any other options, locals are staying all night without heeding one’s health to shoo the animal away.” He said. 

Vice-Chairperson Bhattarai, said, “Elephants stay in bushes and shrubs but at night they enter the human settlement. Lately, the terror and nuisance of the elephant have increased in the majority of the rural municipalities of Jhapa district.
