Janakpur set to celebrate Vivah Panchami

BY OUR CORRESPONDENT,Janakpurdham, Dec. 17: Janakpurdham Sub-metropolitan City has built an 11,111-square-foot portrait of Ram and Sita for the upcoming Vivah Panchami.For the first time in Janakpurdham, a portrait of Ram and Sita measuring 11,111 square feet was created using rice grain. 

The creation of the portrait which began on Monday, at the Rangbhoomi Maidan in Janakpurdham was completed on Friday evening.

After the idol was fully prepared, Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City Mayor Manoj Kumar Sah formally inaugurated it by cutting a ribbon.

The security of the portrait has been entrusted to the city police and it can be viewed from and within the security perimeter on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Additionally, starting from Tuesday, the idol will be available for public viewing and the rice used in the construction will be distributed to the public, said Mayor Sah.

The construction committee revealed that a total of 95 quintals of 11 different varieties of rice were used in the construction of the portrait. 

The Chairman of the construction committee and president of the Janakpurdham Chamber of Commerce Parmeshwor Sah said that the idol construction was completed in five days. 

Satish Gurjarn, the main artist constructing the portrait said, ‘It is an honour to make the idol on the occasion of Biwaha Panchami, a significant religious and historical event celebrated annually in Janakpurdham.”

To promote Janakpurdham globally on the occasion of the annual Biwaha Panchami, the construction committee decided to break a world record by creating the portrait using 11 varieties of rice grains and spending a total of Rs. 2,123,000.  

The coordinator of the committee Jitendra Mahaseth informed that they aimed to break the Guinness Book of World Records, held by a similar-sized picture created in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, India, and set a new record in Janakpurdham.
