Mahendranagar (Kanchanpur), Nov 29 : Kanchanpur, the district in the Far-west province, has never got a cricket coach from the National Sports Council (NSC), but continues to shine in the national cricket, thanks to the image earned by local players.
The district has been producing
talented players over the years and the credit for this goes to the former and
senior national players, most of them from the district, who have been working
as coaches on volunteer basis.
The cricket environment in the district
is getting exciting with the local players giving their best performance in the
national level cricket championship in recent days.
Although there are coaches for 17
different sports under the District Sports Development Committee here, there is
no single cricket coach.
Birendra Bahadur Chand, the
president of Kanchanpur Cricket Association, said cricketing activities have
been increasing in the district in recent days. Some of the best-known
cricketers like Dipendra Singh Airee, Sandip Jora, Bhim Sarki and Binod
Bhandari are from Kanchanpur.
According to Chand, cricketing
activities have been expanding in the district although there is lack of
physical infrastructures. Despite this, Kanchanpur is known for producing
national level cricketers.
At present, the senior local
cricket players are coaching the younger players in the district and the
Association is coordinating in this.
"Attraction towards cricket
has surged among the youths after the district won fame with the performance of
national level players from here.
Cricket competitions are being organized in coordination with the local governments in the district," Chand said, adding that the Association also plans to conduct cricket trainings in all nine local level units in the district. (RSS)
