Various programmes in operation for red panda conservation

Lalitpur, April 23: The National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) has launched public awareness programmes for the conservation of endangered red pandas, which are found in high-hilly and mountainous regions of Nepal.     

Different programmes are in operation in coordination with local levels of Annapurna, Manaslu and Gaurishankar Conservation Areas for the conservation of red pandas. Red pandas are on the verge of extinction due to poaching and attack of wild dog, according to the Trust.     

Though different species of pandas are found in various countries of the world, red panda is found only in Nepal. It is estimated that the population of red pandas is around 400-600, but it is declining in recent period, it is shared.(RSS)
