By Thakur Prasad Acharya, Myagdi, Nov. 23: Development projects worth Rs. 50 million have been alloted for the development of the historic settlement of Lo Manthang in Upper Mustang.
The Gandaki Province government has allocated the projects for the management of the Lo Manthang settlement in the current fiscal year.
The multi-year projects under two headings include the construction of roads from the Welcome Gate to various parts of Lo Manthang. The project will be executed through the Mustang District Development Office.
The projects will be implemented through a two-year contract. The Infrastructure Development Office Mustang has already started implementing the projects.
This settlement, which is also the centre of Lo Manthang Rural Municipality, is also a tourist spot.
Bibek Subedi, head of the office, said that the Infrastructure Development Office has started to implement the programme allocated by the province government.
He said, "Projects equivalent to Rs. 50 million have been received for the development of Lo Manthang. Now we are going to make a DPR for the implementation of the plan”.
The budget and the time for the projects will be fixed after we prepare the DPR, Subedi said.
He said that the office is ready to implement the plan in February or March next year. The programme will be completed within two to three years, he added.
Chairman of Lo Manthang Rural Municipality-5 Dhukke Bista said that since Lo Manthang is known as a city of mud, the local residents are happy with the allocation of development projects by the provincial government for its development.
He said, "We did not have access to bring such a large budget. Realising the importance of Lo Manthang, the province government has allocated a large amount of budget this time, and we are committed to implementing the projects, he added.
