Kukur Tihar and Laxmi puja celebrated

Kathmandu, Nov 12: Kukur Tihar, the second day of Yamapanchak, was celebrated across the country today.     

Kukur Tihar, the festival of dogs, is observed by garlanding dogs and providing them delicious foods. 

   

Dog is the faithful guard of human.     

Theologian Prof Dr Devmani Bhattarai shared the religious belief with the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) that once the dogs, which are sentries (named as Shyam and Sabal) at main gate of Yamaraj, are fed delicious item, they do not obstruct our path to next world after death.     

Due to change is tithi, timing as per lunar calendar, this year, Nepali people also celebrated the Laxmi puja by worshipping Goddess Laxmi this evening. Sel roti, a special delicacy, is prepared, offered as prasad, and eaten on this occasion.     

Laxmi is the Goddess of wealth. Homes and offices were illuminated this evening. Flowers, colours and lights overwhelm the celebration.     

Laxmi puja is also called deepawali, festival of lights.


The celebrants also burst firecrackers.     

The second biggest festival of Nepalis, Tihar, began yesterday, Saturday. The first day of Yamapanchak was both the Kag Tihar and Dhanwantari Jayanti. (RSS)
