AIDS killed eight in Myagdi

By Amrit Prasad Paudel, Myagdi,  Nov 8: Eight people have lost their lives because of HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Syndrome) /AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) since the start of the ART program in the Myagdi district. As many as eight lives have been lost to AIDS after the start of the Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) Centre since 2014. 

As many as 117 have received service in the ART Centre run by Beni Hospital in Myagdi, since its establishment.  

Tuberculosis, Leprosy and HIV/AIDS focal person, Staff Nurse Pashupati Baniya, said that eight people have succeeded in HIV/AIDS since 2014. 88 people are using medicine regularly from the Centre. Of the 88 patients, five are under eighteen years, four male children and one five-year-old female child. 

Acting Medical Superintendent Dr Anju Thapa, said that those who got a diagnosis while receiving treatment at the hospital and also those who are diagnosed from other camps can take free medicine from Beni Hospital. 

“It doesn’t matter the medium through which diagnosis was made, all are given medicine indiscriminately from the hospital,” She said. 

Likewise, 22 people are taking medicine for tuberculosis regularly from the ART Centre. 

According to focal person Baniya, 22 people including one from Jaljala Rural Municipality, Parbat, are getting medicine from the Centre. Five females and seven males are suffering from tuberculosis in the lungs. Likewise, five males and females each having tuberculosis in other parts of the body are taking supervised medicine regularly. 

Likewise, three people, one from Jaljala Rural Municipality, Parbat, and two from Beni Municipality-5, are taking medicines regularly against leprosy.
