NRB and FNCCI sign MoU to cooperate in creating macroeconomic policies

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Nov. 4: The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) and the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to cooperate in creating macroeconomic policies and strengthening the industrial and business environment in the country.

Executive Director of Research Department of the NRB Dr. Prakash Kumar Shrestha, and Director General of the FNCCI Gokarna Raj Awasthi signed the MoU at a programme organised on Friday at the central bank in Kathmandu.  Governor of the NRB Maha Prasad Adhikari and President of the FNCCI Chandra Prasad Dhakal were present on the occasion. 

According to the agreement, the NRB and the FNCCI will conduct study and research based on facts and data on various issues. Governor Adhikari said that this understanding has created an opportunity for cooperation between the two institutions, and expressed his belief that the participation of the private sector in policymaking will increase in the future.

Dhakal thanked the central bank for its cooperation with the private sector and said that the MoU will help in creating a policy based on reality in the future. He also expressed his belief that it would help in transmitting right information.

According to the agreement, the FNCCI and its member organisations will provide necessary information in the studies conducted by the central bank, while the technical assistance of the latter will be provided in the studies conducted by the Federation. 

The two institutions will collaborate in conducting joint study and research as per the need. A facilitation cell will be created for the implementation of the agreement which will be valid for five years. 

Deputy Governor of the NRB Dr. Neelam Dhungana, Senior Vice-President of the FNCCI Anjan Shrestha, vice-presidents Surkrishna Vaidya, Hemraj Dhakal and Jyotsna Shrestha were present at the signing ceremony.
