By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Nov.1: United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization(UNESCO) has listed Kathmandu as the ‘Creative City of Films.”
In a press briefing organized by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) on Wednesday, KMC informed that the Capital City of Nepal, Kathmandu, has been listed as ‘A Creative City of Films by UNESCO.”
Sunita Dangol, Deputy Mayor of the KMC informed at the press meeting that a 'Kathmandu Create the Council' will be established soon.
Deputy Mayor Dangol said that emphasis will be placed on policy and research for the development and expansion of the film sector along with the operation, protection, and promotion of film-related industries.
KMC believes that this will implement all programmes and activities under cultural and creative arts.
UNESCO said that on the occasion of World City Day, 55 cities including Kathmandu have been included in the network of creative cities. Under creative cities, 55 new cities have been included. These creative fields include crafts, folk art, design, film, gastronomy, literature, media arts, and music.
There is a policy to encourage filmmakers to produce local and international films through coordination and cooperation between schools and universities, which teaches filmmaking and improves skills in manpower of the film sector, experimenting, and teaching the subject.
Dangol said, “Among the cities connected to the network this year, Kathmandu along with five others has been selected in the film category. Similarly, 16 cities have been connected in music, 6 in design, 7 in craft and folk art, 10 in literature, 7 in gastronomy, and 4 in media art.”
