NA Vice-Chair insists on gender-responsive food, biodiversity plans

Kathmandu, June 2: Vice Chairperson of National Assembly, Lila Kumari Bhandari, has stressed that plans and polices related to food security and biodiversity must be gender-response. 

The NA Vice Chair made this remark during her address to a programme on 'Parliamentary Dialogue on Advancing Gender-Responsive Food Security and Biodiversity Governance' organised by the Women Rights And Resource Network (WRRN) and Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Nepal here today. 

Highlighting the role of women in rural economy, food security and biodiversity conservation, she said global climate change has its impacts on food security and biodiversity. 

She echoed the need to promote indigenous technologies in food system and to enhance the capacity enhancement of small-scale farmers and women by ensuring their rights to access natural resources. 

Network Chair Aarati Pathak presided over the programme which was attended by NA members, House of Representatives (HoR) members, representatives from the local governments, thematic experts and various concerned bodies. (RSS)
