By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Oct.31: Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that Nepal is a pro-climate change but is facing the impact of climate change.
Addressing a joint meeting of the Federal Parliament of Nepal, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, said that Nepal is a pro-climate change. Nepal is feeling the brunt of the climate change. Climate Change is not just the proposal on paper as many lives are impacted by climate change. Drought and landslides are being witnessed in the country.
He said, “Nepal is a pro-climate. Extraordinary reforestation is an example of this. The global crisis is hitting Nepal hard. It is squeezing the funds from its development. Glaciers are melting at a record level in the country. People are competing for fresh water. In the future, the impact of climate change will be seen in great rivers Hindus and Ganges. Millions of people compete for water and land.”
He said that South Asians can be a terrible victim of climate change.
He said, “I visited the whole world to show the impact of climate change. Glaciers are melting enormously in the Mount Everest.”
“I have proposed Rs 5 billion a year for sustainable development of the country. I urge you to act on climate change. Investments should be made in the resilience of communities and development. Climate change is not for the future, many people are living on the impact of it,” he said.
Condolences to the Hamas victim
I send my sincere condolences to the Nepalese students who lost their lives in the Hamas attack in Israel. Bipin Joshi was mentioned highly by him.
Smaller countries become collateral in competition between greater powers. This country is a promoter of peace. Nepal has been able to safeguard sovereignty and identity between great powers.
He said, “Your country has moved from war to peace. The United Nations supports it. “
“You are not alone. UN supports the Nepalese leadership. The UN will be a powerful voice for the country.
Nepal second largest to send military for peace-building
Nepal largest country to end military and police to UN missions. I would like to take a moment and silence for the victims of the Hamas attack on Israel. UN has the second largest number of Nepalese soldiers in peacebuilding. However, with a war that is going on in the world, small countries become victim of it.
All parts must operate. There is loss and damage. There must be a compensation for it. Nepal is a friend of the world and the world must be a better friend of Nepal.
Along with this, he lauded the enormous effort of Nepal on gender equality and its results. Decades of poverty, inflation, and war have impacted the budget of households in Nepal.
He said, “I offer my gratitude for the hospitality that I received in Nepal. I learned a lot about Nepal on this visit. I have proposed support for climate change and the development of the country. This past day will stay with me always. Words, hospitality of people, and cultural diversity are the essence of Nepal. I appreciate the hospitality that I received in the country.”
