BY A STAFF REPORTER,Kathmandu, Sept. 10: The fourth national convention of Jyapu Mahaguthi Nepaa (the national organisation of Jyapu community) kicked off in Kathmandu on Saturday.
The organisation, dedicated for the upliftment of its community and nation for the past 30 years, has set the slogan 'Jyapu Community's Upliftment, Building the Nation' for the convention.
Inaugurating the convention, Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha highlighted the invaluable contribution of the Jyapu community to Nepal's political transformation. Stating that the country was a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual and multi-cultural country, he lauded the Jyapu community's efforts in preserving folk culture and bringing pride to the country on the international stage.
DPM Shrestha said that the government was pursing national prosperity as its central agenda. He stressed on the need of good governance, prosperity and social justice to build a prosperous nation. Furthermore, he stressed the necessity of national capital infusion, increased production, and the eradication of corruption to foster a prosperous society
Addressing disputes related to religion and culture, he called for awareness and cooperation among all communities for the overall development of society.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol urged the Jyapu community to unite for the development of the entire community. She emphasised that the establishment of such organisations would be meaningful only if people worked for their community without being influenced by political parties. She also highlighted the importance of economic unity alongside cultural unity.
Raj Bhai Jakami, president of Jyapu Mahaguthi Nepaa said that the organisation would remain uninfluenced by any political parties and would solely focus on preserving and promoting the community.
He mentioned that the Jyapu community, once considered farmers and marginalised in the past, has now reached the state level and aims to advance not only culturally but also politically.
During the programme, 16 individuals including Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan, Bhaktapur Municipality Mayor Sunil Prajapati and others from the Jyapu community elected as the local level representatives in 2022 local level election were honoured.
Similarly, community members who had contributed to the upliftment of the community while serving as civil servants, including Upesh Maharjan, consultant editor at Gorkhapatra Corporation, and Sarita Maharjan, central member of the National Land Commission, were also felicitated.
