By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Aug. 14: Dinesh Raj Puri, who was born in Sunarpani, Ramechhap, in 1989, has etched his name as a prominent figure in Nepali folk music.  His creative journey initially began in the realm of poetry, by securing top positions in the national poetry competitions made him a distinguished figure. Additionally, his talents were lauded at the district level for his exceptional ghazals and essays.

During his college years, Dinesh brought his debut ghazal collection titled ‘Dhokako Agao’, a pivotal moment that redirected his passion towards the realm of songwriting. It was in 2015 that he marked his entry as a lyricist with the song ‘Aasule Bato’, in collaboration with music composer Rameshraj Bhattarai and vocalist Anju Panta.

Despite his creative writing, many of Dinesh's compositions remained unrecorded until his talent caught the attention of the renowned music composer Arjun Pokharel.

The partnership with Arjun became a transformative phase in Dinesh's musical journey, resulting in a cascade of chart-topping tracks.

This collaborative endeavour proved to be a milestone, notably contributing to the success of his song ‘Kasam’ from the film ‘Ma Yesto Geet Gaauchhu- 2’

Songs including ‘Dharai Nakholi’, ‘Aat Garenau Bhane’, ‘Chhal’, ‘Dadai Kataula’, ‘Paatko Neti Kathaiko Madani’, ‘Runa Dinna’, ‘Choclatee Shyau’ are some of his popular songs.

He also received Jayaprapti Music Award for the song ‘Runa Dinna’ as the best lyricist.

Dinesh's writing in major print media is another beauty. He also wrote ‘Kaapima Ghazal’ column in Sahityapost Online, in his own handwriting. He is equally active in ghazals, Muktakas and poetry.

More than half a dozen songs are being prepared for release.

Dinesh believes that melodious songs cannot be crafted without considering the environment and culture he grew up in, including the richness of the soil, folk dialect, and more. He's eager to present the audience with outstanding pieces from various genres soon.
