By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Aug. 11: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has arrested lawmaker of Nepali Congress Sunil Sharma.
Sharma was arrested by a special team of the CIB from his own house in Tokha, Kathmandu, on Thursday afternoon on charge of possessing fake academic certificate and forgery of academic credentials.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and Spokesperson for the Police Headquarters, Kuber Kadayat said that he was arrested for investigation after a certificate of his academic qualification of proficiency certificate level (PCL), which was said to have been issued by an institution in India, was found to be fake.
"Based on the fake certificate, he studied MBBS," said DIG Kadayat. The Congress-elected lawmaker to the House of Representatives from Morang Constituency 3, is said to be close to the camp of Shekhar Koirala in the party.
Meanwhile, the CIB has informed the Parliament Secretariat about the arrest of lawmaker Sharma. SP Navaraj Adhikari of CIB reached the office of the Secretariat to inform about Sharma's arrest under certificate forgery case. The CIB has submitted a written letter to the Secretariat regarding his arrest. In a similar case, the CIB has detained two other persons, DIG Kadayat said.
The Bureau has also said that an investigation is being conducted on him regarding the creation of documents related to the medical field.
Lawmaker Sharma, after being elected as lawmaker, has been indirectly managing the operation of the Kathmandu Medical College and Nobel Medical College, Biratnagar.
