By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Aug. 3: Staging of ‘Yuddhaka Ghauhuru 2.0’ (Wounds of War 2.0), a play that portrays the 10-year armed conflict (moist insurgency) in Nepal, has begun at Mandala Theater in Thapagaun, Kathmandu.
The first batch of students of Mandala Drama School have created the play with the main theme of ‘Theater for Social Transformation and Peace Building’.
The main emphasis of the drama is on the unaddressed issues arising from enforced disappearances, sexual violence, displacement, mutilation, and physical torture that took place in the decade-long armed conflict.
The intention is to expose the often-overlooked physical and psychological scars, rather than bury them under the contemporary vision of a flourishing Nepal.
This drama symbolises an earnest effort to scrutinise the inhumane aftermath of wars and conflicts, a heart-rendering aspect of human civilisation felt globally. It gives voice to the victims, allowing their experiences to serve as a review of past atrocities.
This play is a neo-version of the play ‘Yuddhaka Ghauhuru’ created by the same team as part of their training.
This play also had a successful performance at the Academic Thespians Theatre Festival in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on July 24, 2023.
The play, written and directed by AnJan PraDeep, features a cast including Aditya Mishra, Akash Nepali, Anil Kurmi, Niraj Babu, Sanjay Vishwakarma, Sarita Kathayat, Sumitra Pehim, and Sushmita Pokharel.
The staging of the drama that began on Tuesday will continue till August 6.
