KC marks a year as FDB chairman

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu,Aug,1: Actor Bhuwan KC has completed a year in the office of the executive chairman of the Film Development Board (FDB).  

KC, who assumed the office on July 27, last year expressed his happiness over the performance of FDB under his leadership.  

KC noted that his first year was a golden period in the board’s history. He mentioned that his team successfully identified and tackled long-standing issues, and moved forward many stagnant projects, some of which had already received government approval.

He said, “The chairman’s role has given me a deep insight into the film industry.  During my first year in the office, we have identified the needs to be accomplished for Nepali cinema, and I plan to accomplish more in the coming year to bolster the industry.”

Chairman KC also expressed his gratitude for the cooperation he received from the Council of Ministers and the Minister for Communication and Information Technology.

He added, “I am fortunate to have the unwavering support of the Minister for Communication and Information Technology and the Government of Nepal. Long-pending files have been reopened and decisions are being made, favouring the previously deprived Nepali films.”

Chairman KC conveyed his optimism about the amendment to the ‘National Film Policy-2071’, by the current Cabinet, and he was hopeful that it would be passed soon. 

According to the Board, it has done several works including preparation of the draft ‘National Film Policy 2080 BS’,  amendment to the National Film ‘Policy 2071 BS’,    approval received to allocate a total of 2.5085 hectares of Bahunandanda Community Forest in Banepa Municipality Ward - 10 and 13 of  Kavrepalanchok District for building the state-of-the-art film studio,    selection and promotion of Gandaki province's best locations to attract international film shootings.

  Likewise, the Board has also complied details of about 100 Nepali women filmmakers for record-keeping,  preparation of a modality of a public-private partnership for the Dolakha Film City construction project,   and selection of six stories and six short films among others. 

KC also aims to build an indoor film studio equipped with the latest technology in Banepa, Kavre, during his tenure. He is also planning to make crucial decisions regarding Nepal Film Day with the intention of reinstating it. Furthermore, he aims to set up and run a post-production lab on the premises of the Film Development Board. 

His agenda also comprises the promotion of original Nepali films and indigenous cinema through a variety of initiatives and programmes.
