Chhakka Panja-4, Jaari, Prem Geet-3 biggest collectors last fiscal: FDB

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, July 22: The gross box office collection report of both Nepali and foreign films screened in Nepal in the last fiscal year made public by the Film Development Board (FDB) showed that the industry did a business of Rs.  Rs.1. 56 billion. 

Of the amount, Nepali films collected Rs. 767.257 million while foreign films earned Rs. 794.304 million The report was made public on Thursday per the decision of the Film Development Board on July 18. During the last fiscal year, a total of 57 Nepali films and 78 foreign films were released in Nepal. 

Among the  Nepali film, ‘Chhakka Panja-4’ of Dipak Raj Giri and Deepa Shree Niraula earned the highest at Rs. 175. 2 million while   ‘Jaari, grossed Rs. 171.7 million.  Prem Geet-3 stood third by collecting  Rs. 77 million.

 The Hindi version of the same film secured the ninth position, earning Rs. 2.27 million.  ‘Mahapurusha’ secured the fourth position with a total gross of 73.8 million.

‘Dui Nambari,’ directed by Dipendra Lama, claimed the fifth place grossing Rs. 38.4 million.

 Fulbari directed by Rambabu Gurung earned a total of Rs. 35.3 million and was placed in the sixth spot.

 ‘Jingedau’ and ‘Ke Ghar Ke Dera’ secured the seventh and eighth positions, respectively, by  earning Rs. 34.113 million and Rs. 26.55 million respectively.

In the tenth position is ‘Prakash’ with  Rs. 17.5 million. 

Among the foreign films, the top three highest-grossing films are ‘Pathan’ from Bollywood, ‘Avatar: The Wave Of Water’ from Hollywood, and ‘Brahmastra Part One: Shiva’ from Bollywood. These films have amassed Rs. 132.8 million, Rs. 83 million, and Rs. 44.7 million respectively.

The Film Development Board mentioned that there might be a deviation of 10 to 15 per cent in the data due to some cinemas not being connected to the box office system, and in some cases, manual ticket selling was involved.
