Foot traveller Upadhyaya reaches Jhapa

By Our Correspondent,Birtamod, July 20: Devraj Upadhyaya of Khurkhuriya, in Gauriganga Municipality-4, Kailali district, reached Jhapa on Wednesday on foot. 

The 38-year-old, who embarked on a journey with an aim to tour Nepal on foot reached Jhapa on the 123rd day of his journey.  

He said that the goal is to explore Nepal. He has been promoting the tourist areas of Sudurpaschim province along the way. He has so far travelled 52 districts. 

He started the journey with Rs. 50,000, out of which Rs. 40,000 is a loan.  

According to Upadhyaya, he has been promoting Khaptad and Shuklaphanta National Park, Godawari and Badimalika Dham, Mt. Api and Mt. Saipal and other features of the far western region. 

Last year, Upadhyaya went on a tour of Mahakali on foot carrying halojuwa (a traditional tool to plough the field) with a message that the development of the country would be possible if the leaders were true to the country. 

He completed the tour in 28 days. Upon reaching the capital, Kathmandu, he informed people there about landscape of old Nepal through a map of greater Nepal which he had carried along the way. 

Upadyaya who has a mother, wife and two children, said that he has full support from his family.
