blog

By Amar Raj Naharki,Tanahun, July 18: Babita Shrestha, a music video director, is known for her bold and courageous nature despite her reserved demeanour.

Breaking barriers, she paved her way into the male-dominated field of music video direction, becoming an inspiration for women across the country.

Initially, her family was worried after her entry into the music field, fearing it would bring her disrespect.

However, as Babita gained both recognition and financial success, her family became proud of her accomplishments.  Babita is currently serving as the Treasurer of the Nepal Music Video Directors Society.

Within a short span of time, she has established herself as a prominent figure in the industry. She has directed over 500 music videos so far.

One of her notable works is the modern song ‘Kasto Thiyo Kasto Bhayo,’ featuring the soulful voice of Pramod Kharel, Bisal Niraula’s captivating music, and Roshan Singh’s heartfelt lyrics. This video captured the hearts of the audience and has amassed more than 37 million views on YouTube.

Born in 1980 in a Newar family in Lalitpur, Pulchowk, Babita has a natural inclination towards songs, music, and acting from her young age.

Since 2011, she has been actively engaged in directing, starting with her first music video featuring ‘Himal Pari.’

One of her popular works includes the original song ‘Timi Hidne Bato Malai Kina Paayaro Lagchha' with lyrics by Rajendra Puri, sung by Bishnu Majhi and Jaya Devkota, further amplifying her fame.

In 2016, Music Nepal released the song ‘Nalau Jhuto Pirati Part 1,’ sung by Bishnu Majhi and Rajesh Sen, which became a hit. This success continued with ‘Panchebaja Barmala Nalau Jhuto Pirati Part 2,’ leaving no room for looking back.

In 2019, her song ‘Ek Hajarko Note’ featuring Bishnu Majhi’s enchanting voice and Bishnu Khadka’s musical composition came into the limelight. Her songs, including ‘Timro Mero Pirati,’ ‘Singha Durbar Jhyalaima Aina,’ and ‘Ma Pagal Premi,’ are some of her popular works.

She has been honoured with several awards, including the Sundaradevi Popular Award, International Box Office Music's Best Music Video Direction Award, National Power Music Award, Bindabasini Music Award, and Jyoti Films Music Award.

Despite her significant role in making popular videos, Babita expresses her disappointment at the lack of recognition given to directors.
