By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, July 7: The pinnacle of Swayambhunath is being repaired. The pinnacle fell during a powerful storm on March 14 this year.
General Secretary of Swayambhu Management and Conservation General Committee, Ashokkaji Buddhacharya, informed that the Department of Archaeology and Committee had started the repair work.
The earthquake of 2015 had shaken the pinnacle and when monkeys climbed on top of it and shook it, it tilted further.
A proposal to fix the pinnacle was put in the committee and a permission was sought from the Department of Archaeology (DoA) to rebuild it, he said.
A team from the DoA checked the fallen pinnacle and concluded that it should be repaired.
A discussion between the old and the new craftsmen and priests of the temple was held to repair the pinnacle, he said.
The repairing process of pinnacle began in May after performing forbidden and peace worship as per the tradition.
"The committee has made efforts so that such incidents do not recur in the future. Work is being done in such a way that the pinnacle will last for a long time. Small nails will also be placed on the top to prevent monkeys from climbing on the pinnacle," he said.
The committee has taken the entire responsibility of repairing the pinnacle. The repairs are being done by the old craftsmen.
