By Our Correspondent,Bardiya, July 4: Nepal Academy of Fine Art under the Department of Folk Art and Sculpture in collaboration with Jasu Art Centre has begun a three-day folk painting and sculpture training and seminar in Bansgadhi, Bardiya.
Inaugurating the programme, Khadak Bahadur Khadka, Mayor of Bansgadhi Municipality, expressed the municipality's dedication to the discovery, protection, and promotion of local art, culture, language and literature.
Devendra Kumar Kafle 'Thumkeli', the member secretary of Nepal Fine Arts Academy, highlighted that the training and seminar would contribute significantly to the preservation and promotion of Raithane art. During the seminar, writer and scholar Shekhar Dahit presented a paper titled 'Glory of Folk Art in Tharu Community,' emphasising the importance of preserving Tharu folk art and sculpture.
Dineshwor Mahato, the head of the Sculpture Department of the academy, expressed that the training would benefit artists interested in Tharu folk art.
He recognised that despite the richness of Tharu art, culture, and civilization, certain elements were disappearing, necessitating training and empowerment programmes. The training is conducted by artists Dineshwor Mahato, Mithu Tharu and DB Bhandari.
