By Our Correspondent,Syangja, June 19: A truss bridge has been constructed in Arjunchaupari Rural Municipality, Syangja district.

As the plan had remained stalled for a long time even after the construction work started, the local consumers have completed the construction of the two-metre wide and 32-metre-long bridge five months prior to the expiry of the contract deadline.

The truss bridge built by the municipality has replaced a suspension bridge built in 1991, which had been in a dilapidated condition.   The suspension bridge, which was essential for the locals as well as the students in the municipality’s wards 1 and 2 to get across, was at risk of falling.

With the technical support of Andhaandhi Community Development Centre, the bridge was built with an investment of Rs. 3.01 million from the Suspension Bridge Construction Areawise programme under the Federal Government, Rs. 1.9 million of the rural municipality and labour donation worth over Rs. 100,000.  According to Prakash Tiwari, chairman of the rural municipality, the locals as well as students had problem in crossing through the 32-year-old bridge which was in disrepair.

He added that with the completion of the construction, the travel time is going to be shortened and risk-free.

According to Rudra Bahadur Thapa, the chairman of the Arjun Chowpari Bridge Construction Committee, the newly constructed bridge has delighted the people in the locality.
