By Our Correspondent,Waling, June18: Tulsa Bhandari, the principal of Gyanodaya Secondary School in Galyang, Syangja district, reaches school early in the morning after finishing her housework. But she doesn’t feel exhausted. The only thing that makes her feel uncomfortable is that male teachers in the school hold biased view on female teachers.
In her experience as a teacher spanning over 13 years, Bhandari has seen many of her students joining the work of nation building. Since her husband is abroad for employment, she single-handedly takes care of their 5-year-old son.
She openly shared her teaching experiences at Female Teacher Orientation Programme organised by Galyang Municipality.
Bola Pathak, a female teacher of Bhanubhakta School with 25 years of teaching experience, also shared her experiences.
She said, "It’s time for me to retire, having been in the profession for a long period of time.
But this long experience has presented me with many challenges."
Describing how society has come to embrace female teachers, Pathak continued, "When I started teaching, I used to raise the question that responsible people should be in teaching job."
About 400 women teachers in the city participated in the programme organised for the first time. Many had candid conversations with one another about their experiences and they were visibly excited.
The participants said they felt excited to share their experiences for the first time.
Bishnukumari Shrestha, the principal of Chandika School, said, "This is my new experience though I’ve been in the profession for a long time." Almost all the participants shared that the orientation programme added to their enthusiasm.
Speaking at the event, Mayor Guru Prasad Bhattarai said that the role of women teachers is crucial in improving quality of education. He said, "Schools also have a great responsibility for women teachers to make teaching-learning activities effective."
Chief Bhattarai mentioned that only quality education can lead to economic development in the nation.
In the programme, Deputy Mayor Hema Neupane said that the programme was organised with the aim to boost the confidence of female teachers and enhance their capacity.
She said, "Society still doesn’t view female teachers favourably. To change it, so we have gathered all the female teachers of the city in one place."
Deputy Chief Neupane said that her enthusiasm got a boost after being able to interact and discuss with women teachers in the city.
