Lalitpur metropolis to install second phase CCTV cameras

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, July 17: Lalitpur Metropolitan City (LMC) is going to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at various places in the metropolitan area in the second phase. 

The city is going to install CCTV cameras in collaboration with the District Police Range of Lalitpur.  An agreement to this effect was signed between the Metropolitan and District Police Range of Lagankhel on Thursday.

 Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City Chiri Babu Maharjan on behalf of the metropolis and Senior Superintendent of Police Siddhi Bikram Shah on behalf of the District Police Range of Lalitpur inked the agreement.

Under the agreement, the metropolis will install CCTV cameras along the four routes outside the Ring Road--from Ekantakuna to Khokana and Bungamati, from Satdobato to Harisiddhi, from Satdobatao to Sunakothi and from Satdobato of Dhapakhel spending Rs. 35 million. The police will provide technical support to the metropolis for the installation of CCTVs. 

Mayor Maharjan said that the metropolis has installed 1,400  smart lights as part of its campaign to make Lalitpur a smart city and the CCTV cameras would be installed in the areas where the smart lights have already been fixed.  Stating that the installing the CCCT is an important component of a smart city, Mayor Maharjan said that to make the city safer and develop LMC as a smart city, they have copied some components of the smart cities of other nations.

The metropolis had installed 669 smart street lights from Bagmati Bridge via Jwalakhel-Lagankhel to Satdobato, Himalaya Hotel, Patan Dhokha, Ashok Hall, Mangalbazaar-Lagankhel via Kwalkhu, Pulchowk to Mangalbazaar to Gwarko in the first phase. 

Under the next phase, the police would publish a tender for the installation of smart street lights in Khokana, Bungmati, Harsiddhi, Sunakothi and Dhapakhel. 

After the installation of the CCTV camera, the system would remain functional for five years, he said.
