Mt. Everest Day marked in Pakistan

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, June 14: The Embassy of Nepal in Islamabad, Pakistan, recently organised a programme to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the first ascent to Mount Everest and International Mt. Everest Day-2023 in the presence of Everest summiteers, alpinists, media persons and friends of Nepal in Islamabad.

 During the event, Ambassador Tapas Adhikari highlighted the importance of May 29, the day when a new avenue was opened in the mountaineering field, and thousands of mountaineers have climbed Everest since then.

Adhikari also welcomed the Everest summiteers and congratulated Naila Kiyani and Sajid Ali Sadpara for their recent ascent to Mt. Everest and hoped they would continue their endeavours in mountaineering and expedition.

He shared the Sherpa’s contribution to mountaineering that they were expert, reliable and helpful which made them special in mountaineering and without their support it would be difficult to climb any mountain in the world. 

“Nepal is proud of their contribution to Nepal and in particular in the mountaineering field,” he said.  

Adhikari also handed over certificates issued by the Department of Tourism to Kiyani and  Sajid Ali Sadpara. 

At the programme, Mingma G. Sherpa, Dawa Sherpa, Sarbaz Khan, Kiyani and Sadpara had shared their mountaineering experiences and thanked the Government and the people of Nepal for their support in their mountaineering endeavours.
