7th Peacekeeping Int'l Symposium from today

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, June 13: The 7th edition of 'Partnership for Technology Peacekeeping International Symposium' (PTPS) is going to be held in Nepal from June 13 to 16 in the Capital.

In order to develop the possibility of using digital technology in the United Nations peacekeeping operation and to use the latest technologies, the Department of Operational Support (DOS) and the Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) under the United Nations Secretariat is organising an international seminar on cooperation for technology in peacekeeping.

The topic for this year's symposium is 'Harnessing Technology for Digital Transformation’.

According to the Directorate of Public Relations and Information of the Nepali Army Headquarters, the programme is being conducted under the leadership of the Ministry of Defence and in coordination with the Nepali Army in order to share experiences among the member countries of the peacekeeping forces about the technologies, challenges and best practices used in peacekeeping missions in accordance with the fastest development of information technology in the world and the changing security situation

Representatives from Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and Ministry of Finance are participating in the event. 

Under Secretary General of the DOS Atul Khare, Assistant Secretary General of the OICT, Assistant Secretary General of Human Resources, Force Commander of the United Nations' Disengagement Force and various other 11 Representatives of five peacekeeping missions, representatives of 51 member states of the United Nations, including experts in various subjects with a total participant of 230 members will join the symposium, according to the Army.

For the first time, the same symposium was held in Italy in 2014, organised by the UN. Last year, the 6th PTPS was held at the City of Tshwane (Pretoria), Republic of South Africa, from June 21 to 24.
