By Our Correspondent,Urlabari, June 8: Stray dogs have, of late, unleashed terror in the southern part of Kanepokhari Rural Municipality in Morang district.
In the last fortnight, the stray dogs killed 13 goats of seven farmers in Ward Nos. 1 and 3 of the rural municipality.
"When we went to give water to our goats, I found them to have already been killed by the dogs," said Mangal Baske and Arjun Baske.
Authorities informed that five goats of Mangal and Arjun, who are brothers, were killed by the stray dogs.
"The goats worth over Rs. 60,000 were killed. I had planned to solve several economic problems by selling them. Now, the plan has gone down the drain," said Arjun.
Several farmers have reached the respective ward offices and the municipality office demanding control of the stray dogs and compensation for the loss incurred but in vain.
"If the authorities cannot compensate for our loss, they should control the stray dogs. We have requested the local level multiple times but to no avail," said Durga Kumari Bhandari, a farmer from Ward No. 3 whose goats were also killed by the stray dogs.
Meanwhile, local-level officials informed that they lacked resources to control stray dogs' menace.
"We do not have enough budget to manage the stray dogs. We cannot harm them as well. For now, we have requested the farmers to stay aware and keep their goats indoors," said Gopal Bahadur Karki, ward chairman of Ward No. 3.
