By Prem Adhikari,Ilam, May 4: Samikshya Dahal of Suryodaya Municipality- 9 in Ilam is an emerging singer in the music scene.
Singer Dahal has gained popularity among the youth for her modern folk and pop songs and has been performing at various fairs across the country.
Although she had a passion for singing from a young age, she started formal music classes after moving to Kathmandu in 2014 to pursue Masters’s in management from Nepal Commerce Campus.
Her singing talent was recognised when she made it to the top 17 in Nepal Idol season 2 and the top 7 in Nepal Star.
Apart from singing, she is also involved in composing and arranging songs and has released around a dozen songs to date. She is one of the few female singers who can play guitar and sing live.
Her songs ‘Fijai Pankha’ and ‘Timra Lagi’ are among the most popular ones, and she has also sung "Samaya" for the movie ‘Premganj’.
She has taken formal music classes from Kala Bhandar in Kathmandu and is currently learning ‘raga’ (tune) from Indian artiste Lawani Chakraborty. Singer Dahal is also planning to compose her own music video.
Her uncle, Bhugol Dahal, who is also a singer and musician, has been promoting her in the field of music.
She said that she charges around Rs. 40,000 for a single programme.
“If a musician can achieve success with 7-8 songs, they have a chance of sustaining a career in the music industry in Nepal,” said singer Dahal.
She is determined to produce lasting and meaningful songs for her listeners.
She was born in 1997 and completed her secondary level education from Phikkal Secondary School, Phikkal, Ilam.
