BY A STAFF REPORTER,Kathmandu, Apr. 28: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) on Thursday sealed Kotaa Dhuku Oil Store in Ward No. 16 of Balaju in Kathmandu. Superintendent of City Police Raju Nath Pandey informed that the oil store, a general seller of Nepal Oil Corporation, was sealed because it did not meet the standards for selling the petroleum products.

He informed that the oil store was being operated from a shutter of a house without complying with stipulated safety standards.

Kotaa Dhuku Oil Store was one of the 16 petrol pumps enlisted by the Nepal Oil Corporation as the petrol pump that failed to meet the standards of the Petroleum Products Dealers Regulations 2018 (first amendment). The pump had adversely affected the management of traffic and created problems to the vehicles and pedestrians.

As per the regulation, the compound of the petrol pump should be walled with a height of at least three feet and up to five feet and should have a canopy of at least 12 by 12 metres to cover the refuelling area.

There should be six urinals with a minimum of two toilets for men and four toilets for women and one toilet for the disabled in the selling area. Besides, a pump premise should include a system for fire extinguishers.

In Kathmandu and Lalitpur Metropolitan Cities, a pump can be operated in an area of 750 square metres.
