By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Apr. 27: The Embassy of Nepal in London and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom, in collaboration with the British Library, organised an exhibition on Tuesday to commemorate 100 years of the Nepal-UK friendship treaty.
Historical documents, manuscripts, photographs, philatelic collection and other historical materials related to Nepal-UK relations were displayed at the exhibition held at the Library.
As per a statement issued by the Nepali Embassy in the UK, Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bharat Raj Paudyal spoke on the occasion and highlighted the way the friendship treaty, signed in 1923, provided a foundation on which the relationship between Nepal and the UK evolved. He stated that the bilateral relations had today expanded into development partnership, trade and investment, tourism, British Gurkhas and people-to-people linkages, along with cooperation in multilateral forums on agendas of mutual interest.
Paudyal appreciated the support provided by the British Library in preserving, protecting and digitising historical manuscripts, photographs, monographs and other valuable materials in Nepal.
The Minister of State in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the UK Anne-Marie Trevelyan, speaking about the longstanding relations between the two countries, stated that the United Kingdom would continue to support Nepal in achieving sustainable economic development and in graduating from the category of least developed countries, quoted the embassy's press statement.
