By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Apr. 25: Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) has requested Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire to take initiative to not pass the bill to amend the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority Act-1992.
The NCC drew the attention of Speaker Ghimire saying that the bill, which was approved by the National Assembly and reached the House of Representatives, would have an adverse effect on the private sector, as the CIAA could conduct investigations into the private sector if the Bill was approved. The Chamber has also submitted a memorandum to Speaker Ghimire requesting the same.
President of NCC Rajendra Malla said that when the country's economy was currently at risk, the private sector would be discouraged if the Bill got endorsed. Malla said, "The proposed bill will discourage the private sector instead of boosting their morale."
He said that the provision of investigating the private sector by bringing it under the jurisdiction of the CIAA contradicted the spirit of the constitution.
According to him, it is not necessary to try to bring the private sector under the jurisdiction of the CIAA as there is a separate agency to control the irregularities of the private sector.
During the meeting, Speaker Ghimire said that he was trying to create laws that are friendly to the private sector.
