Welcoming guests by dancing

blog

By Thakur Prasad Acharya,Myagdi (Beni), Apr. 13: Every community has their own unique way of welcoming guests. Some present food, others offer drinks while some may not welcome guests at all.

And the Magar community of the Histan Gharamdi village of Annapurna Rural Municipality–7 perform traditional dances to greet visitors.

Old mud houses decorate the Gharamdi village, nestled at the base of a hill, an hour's drive from the Tiplang Bridge on the Karnali Corridor.

Its residents call the village a sanctuary of Magar culture where older generations hand down their traditions and knowledge to the youths.

And as part of their traditions, the villagers here welcome their guests and tourists by dressing up in cultural attire and dancing to the tunes of the Maruni and Sorathi songs, informed ward chairman Mylan Purja. Men dress up as women and make merry. Tourists also take great joy and often join in.

Locals staged their dance during the inauguration of the Annapurna Chairman Cup sport's competition on Monday too.
