Standing in the water bodies like pond, river and well, the devotees offered water to the setting sun on Monday evening and the rising sun on Tuesday morning.
Chaite Chhath is celebrated for four days wishing for peace, prosperity and longevity of their family members.
Chhath is celebrated twice a year, in Kartik and Chait months of the Nepali calendar, said Ashok Chaudhary, president of Chhath Development Committee of Damak, Jhapa.
The Chhath festival, which is celebrated during the Kartik month is called Sharadiya or Nanaratra Chhath. Chaite Chhath is called Basanti or Navaratra Chhath.
However, the devotees and observers do not participate with much enthusiasm in Chaite Chhath as they do in the Chhath of Kartik, and Chaite Chhath does not make news, Chaudhary said.
