By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 22: The final results of the elections for Free Students Union in hundreds of campuses under the Tribhuvan University (TU) will come out in a few days, said TU officials.

According to Pashupati Adhikari, executive director at the Student Welfare and Sports Directorate of TU, a majority of the campuses completed the elections under the direct system while that under the proportionate system was still underway.

Students of the campus elect the president, secretary, treasurer, and fifty percent of the members through the direct electoral system and the vice-president, joint-secretary and the remaining members through the proportional system.

"The TU plans the election, but it is up to the campuses to conduct the election or not. However, we have been in talks with the election officials in campuses where elections were suspended, uncertain and rescheduled," said Adhikari.

Talking to The Rising Nepal, Adhikari informed that the campuses where direct election system was completed will now start the process to nominate individuals under the proportional system on the basis of the votes the respective group or party secured.

According to Section 10(6) of the Free Students Union Election Directive, 2079, a respective group can recommend the names of certain individuals for certain posts from the name registered previously under the proportional system within a week from the day the voting was completed. If not, the election committee will elect individuals under the basis of seriality.

"FSU election seems simple but has a lengthy process. We will be able to provide an overall result of the FSU elections across the campuses only after the proportional election system is completed," said Adhikari.

According to the TU, it has 62 constituent campuses and 1,062 affiliated campuses providing education to thousands of students under 40 different departments.

Among them, elections didn’t take place in the scheduled date on March 19 in 13 constituent campuses across the country, of which seven were of the Kathmandu Valley.

"We believe that the campuses will complete the necessary election process at the earliest to fianlise the list of elected candidates from both direct and proportional system. Process for election in the remaining campuses are also underway," said Adhikari, who is also the member-secretary at TU FSU Election Central Inspection and Coordination Committee.
