Church Boys, Three Star settle for drab draw

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 18: Church Boys United missed taking one point advantage at the Martyr’s Memorial A Division League following its goalless draw against title holder 10-man Machhindra FC at Chyasal Stadium, Lalitpur on Friday.

The win could have helped Church Boys topple Satdobato Youth Club by one point at top of the table. Playing two draws in a row put Church Boys in second place with 11 points from five matches. Satdobato leads the table with 12 points.

Defending champion Machhindra moved to the 11th spot with five points.

The White Lions were reduced to 10 men in the 42nd minute after FIFA referee Nabindra Maharjan flashed Pujan Uperkoti a red card for his serious foul against Church Boys’ Joseph.

Elsewhere, Jawalakhel Youth Club jumped to third place after beating Three Star Club 1-0 in a Lalitpur Derby held at ANFA Complex, Satdobato.

The victory earned Jawalakhel ten points and elevated it to the third position. Three Star sits in sixth place with seven points.

Nkoto Masoabi scored a match-winner for Jawalakhel in the 16th minute. Nkoto volleyed the flank cross off Hisub Thapaliya straight into the net.

The goal was enough to hand Jawalakhel its third victory of the season. Three Star conceded its second defeat in the league.
