Chaurjahari Municipality outperforms counterparts

By Our Correspondent,Rukum (West), Jan. 19: Chaurjahari Municipality of Rukum (West) has been declared top performing municipality in Rukum (West) district.

Among the six local bodies of the district, Chaurjahari has got the highest point in performance evaluation of the fiscal year 2020/21.

The municipality has excelled in local level institutional capacity self-assessment system and local level financial governance risk assessment system. The evaluation was done by the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration.

The municipality got 87.25 points out of 100 in the institutional capacity self-evaluation system and became the first in the district.

Aathabiskot Municipality is in the second position, receiving 83.5 points. Similarly, Sanibheri (70.5) is in the third position, Musikot (69.75) in fourth, Baaphikot (62.25) in fifth, and Tribeni (57) in sixth position.  

Additionally, Chaurjahari has also become first in financial governance risk assessment system, receiving 72 points, whereas Baaphikot and Sanibheri have received 65 points each, Musikot 64 points, Aathabiskot 59 points and Tribeni 47.5 points. 

Sher Prasad Dhakal, acting chief administrative Officer of Chaurjahari Municipality, said that the higher the number in the performance evaluation, the more it is considered to have rule of law, citizen-friendly government, good governance and transparent government.

According to him, the local level needs to make self-assessment first and also have to submit documents to support their assessment. “Its maintenance is done by the district coordination committee,” said Dhakal, adding that the municipality would strive for more points in the coming years.
