Kathmandu, Sept 6 : After the end of the Gaura festival, people in Sudurpaschim Province are now gripped by the excitement of the Deuda song and dance.
People of this province who could not enjoy Deuda for the past two years because of the COVID-19 pandemic are openly enjoying Deuda this year.
Like other areas, Dhangadhi’s people are overjoyed with the commencement of the Deuda game.
From the day Gaura ended, people gathered at the Bandevi temple of Dhangadhi with great excitement.
The participants of the Deuda game said that they were unable to enjoy the Deuda game for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic but now they were enjoying it this year. "Forgetting the sorrows of the year, we are enjoying the Deuda game", said Leeladhar Bhandari of Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan -5.
No one is discriminated against in this game and we all play hand in hand, Bhandari added.
Lately, there has been a practice of throwing powerful satire on politics while performing Deuda. According to culture expert TN Joshi, it is customary to play the Deuda game for a week from Athawari after the end of Gaura.
In the hilly communities of Sudurpaschim Province, the Deuda game is played during any celebration and joyous occasion.
Litterateur Tirtha Raj Bhatta said that for those who do not know to play the Gaura game during the festival, Deuda is an alternative to being happy.
"Such game not only makes people aware of the old history but also adds religious knowledge and entertainment," added Bhatt.
On the occasion of the Gaura festival, the Deuda competition is also organized in different places.
