Danney's Musical Legacy

Danny Niroula, a talented music composer and singer, has been living in Kathmandu, giving continuity to his career in the music sector.

Born to singer Komal and mother late Sarashwoti Niroula in 1978, Danney has crooned more than 200 melodious songs so far. He entered the music industry in 1993 with his first recorded song, ‘Madheshko Garmi Chhekna’.  

Danny comes from a musical family. His father, Komal, is a renowned singer.  His siblings Visan and Jhuma are also active in music. His children, Suyog and Shubham, are demonstrating their singing talent through various reality shows.

The government of Nepal has approved a class song for grade four, sung by his kids. His spouse, Sabita, is his helping hand in his musical endeavours. Danny is bridging his musical legacy.    

After high school at Adarsha Secondary School, Ilam, he landed in Kathmandu for further study in 1997.

He achieved a Bachelor’s degree in music from Lalitkala Campus and also skilled himself through formal training from Sanskritik Sansthan. He was trained by music experts Chandra Raj Sharma, Dibya Khaling and Prabhu Raj Dhakal. Although he is motivated by his father, he is inspired by Narayan Gopal, Bhakta Raj Acharya and Deep Shrestha.   

He composes music having literary values with positive vibes so music lovers may entertain and also get fueled to breaking social taboos.      

A person with an introverted and extroverted personality, he works with legendary music workers from a new generation. Deep Shrestha, Komal Niroula, Lochan Bhattarai, Rabin Sharma, Ram Krishna Dhakal, Yam Baral, Tika Prasain, Kuber Rai, Pramod Kharel, Jhuma Niroula, Jagadish Samal, Sindhu Malla, Mandavi Tripathi, Bikram Baral, Bishwo Nepali, Bimal Gautam, Kamal Shrestha, Abun Pandey etc.

are notable singers with whom Danny has collaborated. Likewise, Danny has collaborated with lyricists Buddha Bir Lama, Naba Raj Lamsal, Ramesh Dahal, Hom Neupane, Krishna Abiral, Jivan Chamling, Tara Dhurkapani, Lalita Doshi etc.

Lagchha Timi Sagar Sari, Bancheko Thiye Timrai Lagi, Yo Keto ta Maya Garna, Lajalu Rupa, Lagaune ho Phanko, Satya Chhau Timi, Ama Malai Gharko Yad Aayo are the hit songs in his composition.

Danny has contributed as a music composer to the commercial success of nine solo music albums containing modern, hymn and children's songs. Anjali, Sense of Love, First Move, Hira, Bhakti Sarobar and Balkusum are some of his successful music albums. These music albums are noted as commercially successful music albums.

The commercial success of the music albums has enabled him to get a name and fame. The success has driven him forward in such a way that he has never looked back.

Danny has achieved national awards and honours for his compositions. Among them, he was awarded the excellent position in Radio Nepal’s Nationwide Modern Song Competition, 2000. Again, Radio Nepal granted him the award for excellent composition in the nationwide folksong competition, 2010, jointly organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs and Radio Nepal.

Likewise, he received the award twice for his superb composition in a child song competition organised on the occasion of Children’s day in 2017 and 2018, jointly by Radio Nepal and Nepal Children’s Organisation. Sankritik Sansthan awarded him the best music composition in 2007.

Anupam Music, Pokhara has honoured him with the Anupam Music honour, including cash in 2019. In the latter period, the Music Khabar Music Award was granted to him the award for composing excellent modern music in 2021.

Danny received the Second Nepali Art, Culture and Music Award for composing the best modern music in 2021. Recognizing the contribution of Danney, Radio Nepal has graded him as a "superior" level music composer.

Danny has established Saru Sangeet Ghar, a music school where hundreds of students learn music with him. He performed as a ‘one-man show’ in the organization of the National Dance House in 2018. He is a cause of the success of music workers in the music industry.

For example, lyricist Ramesh Dahal was able to receive an award from Radio Nepal in 2020.  Likewise, lyricist Hom Neupane and singer Kamal Shrestha were able to receive Music Khabar Music Awards. Actor Gazit Bista has received an award for his performance where Danny has a musical collaboration.

Danny is busy with different individual music projects and is also busy teaching music. His passion is to extend music beyond the border. 

He is hopeful to explore the musical market on a national and international level. He is eager to professionalise the cultural music that has been coming from generations. He wants to promote Nepali music which is unexplored in communities.
