Survey on at-risk Nepalgunj houses to be conducted



Nepalgunj, Aug 7 : The physical vulnerability survey of the houses in the old and dense settlements of Nepalgunj is going to be conducted.

Deputy Mayor of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City Kamaruddin Rai said that the survey on the physical vulnerability of the houses in Ward No. 3 and 7 of the municipality will be conducted. 

He informed that the houses in the old and dense settlements in the sub-metropolis would be surveyed to make them safe from the risks of earthquakes and other disasters as they are very old and vulnerable to disaster. 

The survey will be conducted on 1,100 at-risk houses in coordination with the sub-metropolis and in partnership with the Nepal Red Cross Society Banke Branch and United Nations Children’s Fund. 

Prakash DC, the disaster focal person of the sub-metropolis, said that under the Urban Disaster and Earthquake Preparation Project, technicians have been mobilized on the field to identify at-risk houses and take initiatives to prepare for disaster and build safe structures in the municipality.

The chairman of the Red Cross Banke Branch, Gobardhan Singh Samjhana, expressed his belief that the super project in coordination with the municipality would play a significant role in urban disaster risk mitigation.

Samir Pratap Singh, Environment and Disaster Management Committee of the municipality, said that they were planning to implement an insurance program after identifying the at-risk houses.

The coordination meeting was held to discuss the issue and informed about the survey. Mayor of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City Prashant Bista, acting chief administrator officer Gorkha Bahadur Thapa, and representatives from 23 wards were present in the meeting.
