Kathmandu, July 20:A meeting of the
House of Representatives, the lower house of the Federal Parliament, today
unanimously passed the Senior Citizens (First Amendment) Bill, 2075 BS. The
bill originating in the National Assembly, the upper house, has been passed by
the lower house after a long.
Minister for Women, Children, and senior Citizens, Uma Regmi had tabled the bill for its endorsement.
On the occasion, Minister Regmi said efforts have
been made through the bill to provide support to the senior citizens from the government as their condition is becoming precarious.
According to her, efforts have been made to implement
the bill by passing it through fast track to making the local government also
responsible for supporting the senior citizens.
Responding to the lawmakers' queries in the meeting of
the HoR, Minister Regmi underscored the need of utilizing the skills and
knowledge of the senior citizens for the nation's development and
prosperity.
She said the government has made provisions in the
policy and programs, and the budget for the current fiscal year for providing
'caregiver' training to look after the senior citizens. (RSS)
