Myagdi's Ghorepani receives snowfall

By Thakur Prasad Acharya,Myagdi, Feb. 22: Ghorepani, a popular tourist destination in Myagdi district, experienced snowfall on Thursday.

The snow-covered Ghorepani and Poon Hill in Annapurna Rural Municipality Ward No. 6, as well as Khopra Lekh in Ward No. 5. 

According to Meena Pun, Chairperson of the Ghorepani Hotel Management Subcommittee, snowfall occurred in Ghorepani, located at an altitude of 2,800 metres above sea level and Poon Hill, situated at 3,210 metres.  The area is covered with snow.

Ghorepani and Poon Hill are major tourist destinations along the Annapurna Circuit trekking route.

This is the second snowfall of the season in Ghorepani, Pun said. “It was cold from early morning and light snow fell in the afternoon. The surrounding mountains have turned white and the cold has intensified,” she said.

Although snow is usually expected in December and January, it fell in the third week of February this year. Light snow was also recorded in December.

Before the snowfall, the mountains appeared dark and barren. Pun said that tourist arrival is expected to increase following the snowfall. Meanwhile, light rain was also recorded in Myagdi on Thursday afternoon after a long dry spell.
