By Siraj Khan, Nepalgunj, July 20: Banke witnessed the highest rainfall across the country on
Wednesday. The District Emergency Operation
Center, Banke, reported that Khajura, Banke received the highest rainfall in
the country on Wednesday.
Rupan Gyawali, Spokesperson of the District Emergency
Operation Center, Banke, said that according to the measurements made by the Meteorological Forecasting Division, 155 millilitres of water were measured in Kharuja during the three
hours long torrential rainfall. With this, Banke has recorded the highest
rainfall in the whole nation so far this year.
He said that 86 millilitres were recorded in Nepalgunj and 96 millilitres of water
in Dhakeri, Kohalpur in the hour-long rainfall on Wednesday morning.
Because of the prevailing torrential rainfall, people
in the coastal areas, as well as inundated areas, are compelled to find safer places.
Many parts of Nepalgunj and Kohalpur are inundated owing to the incessant
rainfall since Wednesday morning in the area.
Kamaruddin Rai, Deputy Mayor in the Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan
City said that water is flowing rapidly out of the city due to cleaning drains.
Many drains can be observed in the city due to water inundation.
However, farmers are relieved with the rainfall as
lack of rainfall even in July has obstructed the paddy plantation.
Ram Chandra Thapa, a farmer said, "The rainfall has given hopes for planation and good crops as fields were drying up."
