Nepalgunj to manage e-rickshaws

blog

By Our Correspondent Nepalgunj, July 7: It is expected that there are around 15,000 electric rickshaws operating in Nepalgunj and nearby areas. However, none of the authorities has details about the three-wheelers.

Excessive numbers of e-rickshaws on the road have also led to traffic congestion across the city. In an effort to properly manage them, Nepalgunj Sub Metropolitan City has decided to register and manage the three-wheelers.

“We held talks with the concerned stakeholders and decided to register all the e-rickshaws operating in our city by August 31,” said Prashant Bista, mayor of Nepalgunj.

Nepalgunj’s Deputy Mayor Kamaruddin Rai said that once the registration completes, the sub metropolis will move towards managing the three-wheelers.

“There are thousands of e-rickshaw operating across Nepalgunj. It has been causing traffic jams and accidents. A lack of proper management has made the three-wheelers a major headache in the city,” said Police Inspector Himalaya Shah, chief at Banke Traffic Police Office.

Inspector Shah also suggested that three-wheelers and four-wheelers should not be allowed to park wherever their drivers want along the roads as well. According to Bista, the meeting with the stakeholders also decided to fix rate of fares and routes for e-rickshaws alongside managing parking spaces.
