122nd anniversary of Gorkhapatra

New design of Gorkhapatra publications launched officially

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, May 7: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has officially launched a new design for both the print and digital publications of the Gorkhapatra Corporation.

At a ceremony held to mark the 122nd anniversary of the Gorkhapatra daily and the 60th anniversary of the Gorkhapatra Corporation, Minister Karki launched the new layout design of the Gorkhapatra and The Rising Nepal dailies and their online editions, the gorkhapatraonline.com and the risingnepaldaily.com.

The Gorkhapatra management has introduced the print and online versions of the dailies in a new design since April 14 coinciding with the Nepali New Year.

Addressing the ceremony, executive chairman of the Gorkhapatra Corporation Bishnu Prasad Subedi highlighted the need for the media house to stand out efficiently in the digital platforms corresponding to its history and legacy.

"The Gorkhapatra has made a great contribution to the social transformation of the country. The publication and the media house have a grand legacy and its history is glorious. Now, given the present situation, it needs to stand out as the most efficient in the digital platforms," observed the executive chairman.

Executive Chairman Subedi urged all for feedback for improving the print and the online editions of the newspapers as efforts have been made to present them in a different way.

"We have initiated to preserve the history of the Gorkhapatra daily by means of creating an archive of all the printed versions," said the executive chairman.

He said that the management was serious about professional development and promotion of the employees and the journalists and that processes to these ends were taken forward.

Executive Chairman Subedi urged the government for assistance to rebuild the dilapidated buildings of the Corporation.

Similarly, welcoming the guests in the ceremony, general manager of the Gorkhapatra Corporation Lal Bahadur Airi said that efforts were being made to expand the reach of both the print and online editions of the Gorkhapatra publications.

"We are coordinating even with the local level governments so as to enlarge the base of our audience," he said.

The general manager also made it a point that the management has also initiated efforts to improve the content of the publications.

On the occasion, employees and journalists of the corporation were awarded different prizes while those who made a special contribution to journalism in the country were felicitated with hounours and prizes.
