Chairman of Shram Sanskriti Party Harka Raj Rai (Sampang) has been elected the member of the House of Representatives (HoR) from Sunsari Constituency-1, securing 35741 votes against his closet rival Goma Tamang of Rastriya Swatantra Party who got 27,249.
According to the final results of the vote counting, Karki has received 13,166 votes while his competitor, Asim Rai of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), has received 9,414 votes.
Gautam's closet contender Maha Laxmi Upadhyay (Dina) of the Nepali Congress got 14,038 votes. Similarly, CPN (UML)'s Rameshwor Rana secured 12,783 votes, Bijay Gautam of the Nepali Communist Party 10,788 votes, Dipak Bahadur Singh of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Nepal, 4,574 votes and Surendra Lama of Ujyaalo Nepal Party 10,205 votes.
The commission, led by former Justice Gauri Bahadur Karki, comprised former Nepal Police Additional Inspector General Bigyan Raj Sharma and legal expert Bishweshwar Prasad Bhandari as its members.
"It has become imperative to bring the voices of women, especially Dalit women, women from Karnali, women from Madhes, and women from marginalized communities, to the policy-making levels of the state," she said.
