Police have arrested five persons accused of stealing and snatching gold chains from various locations across the Kathmandu Valley. Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has received approval for the renewal of permit to export 283 MW of electricity. The Central Electricity Authority under India’s Ministry of Power on Wednesday renewed the approval to export 283 MW of electricity generated from eight different hydropower projects in Nepal. The NEA is exporting surplus electricity at competitive rates in the Day-Ahead and Real-Time markets of the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) and to the states of Haryana and Bihar under bilateral medium-term power sales agreements. Additionally, electricity is being exported to Bangladesh using India’s transmission infrastructure.

The government of Japan has agreed to provide financial support worth R. 2.6 billion for the repair and reconstruction of the BP Highway, which was damaged by the floods in September last year. The government of Nepal and JICA signed a grant agreement of up to 2.8 billion Japanese Yen (Rs. 2.6 billion) for the Emergency Rehabilitation of Sindhuli Road Affected by Floods on Thursday. The Election Commission (EC) is preparing to send its response to the Home Ministry regarding a draft ordinance that seeks to grant voting rights to Nepalis living abroad. The government plans to introduce the ordinance to ensure that Nepali citizens residing overseas can participate in national elections. To this end, the Home Ministry has prepared amendments to several existing laws and forwarded them to the EC for feedback.
Public hearings are planned to prepare the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the long-awaited 800 MW West Seti Hydroelectricity Project, which has been a dream for the past four decades.
