Around 20,000 fish fries have been released into the Narayani River to mark World Fisheries Day. The Veterinary Hospital and Animal Service Centre in Nawalpur released a stock of 20,000 fish fries of Rahu species into the Narayani River. As per the decision made by the Central Fisheries Development Centre to release fish fries into the river for the conservation of communities dependent on water, a stock of fish fries has been released into the river, said Sandeep Lamichhane, the Fisheries Development Officer at the centre.
The Lalitpur Metropolitan City (LMC) has bought two new fire engines. The City unveiled the two vehicles amidst a programme on Wednesday and informed that they had been purchased at a cost of Rs. 56.5 million. The vehicles can seat six crew members and can carry both water and foam to extinguish different kinds of flames. As per the LMC, the engines can jet out water to a height of around seven storeys and are small enough to enter the narrow alleys inside the historic core of the metropolitan city. Even if they cannot enter, their hoses can be extended to reach the site of the blaze.
Development projects worth Rs. 50 million have been alloted for the development of the historic settlement of Lo Manthang in Upper Mustang. The Gandaki Province government has allocated the projects for the management of the Lo Manthang settlement in the current fiscal year. The multi-year projects under two headings include the construction of roads from the Welcome Gate to various parts of Lo Manthang. The project will be executed through the Mustang District Development Office. The projects will be implemented through a two-year contract. The Infrastructure Development Office Mustang has already started implementing the projects. This settlement, which is also the centre of Lo Manthang Rural Municipality, is also a tourist spot.
Villages throughout the country have started turning serene as millions of Nepalis who had returned to their hometowns for the month-long festival period have started heading back to their workplaces. Started with Dashain in mid-October, the month-long festival concluded with Chhath on Sunday. From Monday, transport operators informed that the number of individuals returning to major cities has increased. In Bajura district, students and adults who had returned to their roots for the festival have started heading back either to major cities of Nepal or India to continue their education and work. “I came back home for the festivals of Dashain and Tihar. I could also allocate some time and assist my family in planting wheat. Now, I am returning to India for work,” said Rabindra Sarki, a youth from Ward No. 10 of Budhiganga Municipality.
The Election Commission of Nepal has announced a revised voting weightage for voters participating in the National Assembly election. Issuing a statement, Joint Secretary and spokesperson of the Commission Shaligram Sharma Paudel informed that the commission has set new voting weightages of provincial assembly members and chiefs and deputy chiefs of the local levels, as per the National Census 2021. Paudel said the EC’s meeting held on Wednesday has decided to set a voting weightage of 53 for provincial assembly members and 19 for chiefs and deputy chiefs of rural municipalities and mayor and deputy mayors of municipalities for electing members of the National Assembly.
Myagdi district has seen a rise in the number of new hydropower projects of late. However, the increase in the number of projects has also increased the number of fatalities. Since the fiscal year 2018/19, data from Nepal Police shows that 21 labourers have died while working in different under-construction hydropower projects in the district. Of them, two deaths have been reported in the first four months of the current fiscal year 2023/24. Of the two confirmed deaths, one was of Prakash Gole, a labourer working in the construction of Mangale-Rahughat Hydropower Project being developed by Tundi Hydropower in Ward No. 7 of Raghuganga Rural Municipality. Gole, who was sent as a labourer by Ramechhap Construction, died during treatment after he was rescued from an under-construction tunnel of the hydropower plant. He was crushed by boulders and stones on October 21.
Nepali people are observing Haribodhani Ekadashi, the biggest Ekadashi and wedding of the Tulsi (basil) plants across the country on Thursday. On this day, devotees flock to various Narayan temples in the Kathmandu Valley, mainly Budhanilkhanta and four major Narayan temples of the valley. Changu Narayan, Ichangu Narayan, Bishankhu Narayan and Shesh Narayan temples will be especially crowded with devotees from early in the morning. To mark the day, the devotees will hang torans of flowers across the Bagmati River near the Pashupatinath Temple and other river sites.
The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has been shifted to renovated building situated on the western side of Singha Durbar. After the devastating earthquake of 2015 ravaged the building, it was reconstructed. Responding to the media after shifting to his new office, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda expressed optimism, hoping that this new beginning would gather fresh momentum. Prime Minister Prachanda said the original structure of the 120-year-old building has been preserved and the restoration of the damaged building through retrofitting has been successfully completed. He further said that there was a need to advance with revived enthusiasm and confidence. Not only the Office of the Prime Minister's and Council of Ministers has been shifted but has also been decided to transform the nature and quality of work in a fresh, innovative manner, he added. He shared his experience of previously working in the old office, describing the feeling of suffocation.
