Seventeen years have completed since the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA). Inked between the then government and the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), the accord aimed at making an end to the decade-long armed conflict, establishing durable peace and stability in the country. Apart from managing arms and ex-Maoist combatants, the agreement also includes provisions for delivering transitional justice to victims and families. According to the agreement, the country had to set up the Commission for Truth and Reconciliation (TRC) and the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons (CIEDP).
Bardibas Municipality gained a lot of attention during last year's local election because of mayoral candidate Prahlad Chhetri. He was first nominated by the Nepali Congress (NC) but the party later rescinded his candidacy. But, rather than stepping back, Chhetri chose to stand as an independent and won. Then, in his inaugural address, he announced that he would not accept any facilities like vehicles and residence his position awarded him, further boosting his popularity. Chhetri re-entered NC in May this year though. Now, a year and a half into his term, how has he been able to take the municipality forward and coordinate with his former rivals? Nepal’s exports as well imports have witnessed a significant fall during the first four months of the current fiscal year 2023/24 According to trade statistics made public by the Department of Customs Thursday, the country's export has declined by 7.68 per cent during the first four months of the current fiscal year compared to the same period of last fiscal year 2022/23. Goods worth Rs. 50.56 billion have been exported during the review period of the current fiscal year while it was worth Rs. 54.77 billion in the same period of last fiscal year. The reduction in the export of palm oil and soybean oil led to decline in the overall export during the review period.
A single mother of a one-month-old baby, Dipa Acharya Dhakal, was crying for the responsibility of making the child's future beautiful when her husband passed away 18 years ago. But now her cries turned into reality. She has established herself as a successful bag producer. Her husband Bhanubhakta Dhakal died of snakebite in Namthala of present-day Deumai Municipality 18 years ago. She was a new mother when the tragedy occurred. During this Dashain, Tihar and Chhath more than 61,000 pilgrims visited Pathibhara (Mukkumalung), the famous pilgrimage site in Taplejung district. Dashain and Tihar are considered the best season to visit the temple. The Pathibhara Area Development Committee informed that 61,566 devotees visited the temple during the five-week festive season this year. Prajin Hangbang, executive director of Pathibhara Area Development Committee, said that 25,638 devotees visited the temple from the first day of the Dashain, Ghatasthapana, till the last day Kojagrat Purnima. Ministerial discussions between the Government of Nepal and the United Kingdom on addressing crucial matters such as the pension and benefits for ex-Gurkhas took place at the British Ministry of Defense on Wednesday. This marks the third session of the bilateral committee established to handle the demands of former Gurkha soldiers. The Nepali Embassy in London reported that the meeting evaluated progress on pension and welfare facilities, drawing on previous committee sessions and technical-level discussions. Following the presentation of responses to most of the issues raised by the ex-Gurkhas from the British Ministry of Defense, Nepal’s Ambassador to the UK, Gyan Chandra Acharya, and retired Major Juddha Bahadur Gurung responded with arguments on those matters, informed the embassy.
It has been five years since the households in four settlements in Mangaltar, an area in Ward No. 6 of Halesi Tuwachung Municipality of Khotang district, have been exchanging drinking water with rice paddies. There are around 50 households in Damai Danda, Barbot (Magar Village), Karki Village and Raut Village in Mangaltar. “We, all families have been collectively providing 30 sacks of rice annually to the owner of a water source for using water since 2018,” said Tirtha Bahadur Karki, a local. Karki informed that the water is provided to the villagers through three taps installed in Damai Danda, Barbot and Karki Village. Villagers either come to the tap to fetch water or use a pipe to carry water to their houses.

Resunga (Gulmi), Nov 23: A three-year-old infant died after some segments of an orange got stuck in his throat in Gulmi district on Thursday.Ayush Thakuri of Chhap Rangla village of Malika Rural Municipality-5 in Gulmi district died in the accident this afternoon, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Gulmi Nabin Kishor Pradhan told the RSS.Kopila Thakuri of Malika Rural Municipality was residing in a rented house in the district headquarters Tamghas along with her son Ayush. The accident took place when the baby was eating orange along with his mother while sunbathing on the roof of the house this afternoon.Immediately after the accident, the baby was rushed to the Gulmi Hospital after he complained of breathing problem.
